KOR KWIR is Malta’s first queer community choir – led by queer people, for queer people and our ally community.

Musically led by Luke Saydon and co-arranged by Matteo Depares, this choir will be a unique safe space for people to come be who they want to be, feel warmly welcomed and express themselves through the joy of music.

Everyone can join KOR KWIR. It is a non-audition choir. Choir sessions are held at StoreRoom, culminating in a once in a lifetime gig at EuroPride 2023.

It is free to join KOR KWIR, yet places are limited. So book your place here.

Is this choir exclusive for queer-identifying people?

No, EVERYBODY can join this choir. We want to celebrate our community with all the allies who support our pride and our journey.

Unless you're homophobic or transphobic. In which case better join another choir.

Can I join if I have no musical experience?

Yes. A community choir means that there are no auditions to join and it is also tailored for everyone to enjoy the sessions equally. Therefore, we do not sing from music score but rather from lyrics.

How does it work?

We all get together at StoreRoom, grab a drink and socialise. Then we learn a brand new arrangement that has been tailored for the choir. Every session is a brand new arrangement of famous pop songs. After 10 or so sessions between April and August, we will have some intensive rehearsals in September preparing us for our first gig as part of EuroPride 2023.

Sessions are usually held on Sundays, with more week-day sessions added to the calendar from August.

Do I need to attend every session?

You are definitely encouraged to do so. The choir is not mandatory. However, registers are taken every session. Therefore, if we are at full capacity and you have not attended multiple sessions, we would offer your place to another member keen to sing with us.

How will I learn the songs?

Should you like to participate in the gig, you must know the songs off by heart. (Don't let this scare you, it's far easier than you think).

To help you, KOR KWIR gives its members access to recordings of the tracks as well as lyrics in order for you to be able to listen to the songs in preparation for the gig.

What will the gig be like?

Not only will the gig be part of the EuroPride 2023 programme, but it will also be the most fun, cool event where we'll share our voices with an audience for the first time. Held at the peak of pride, the KOR KWIR gig will stand proudly as a representative of everything that makes our community special.

How much does it cost?

Thanks to the kind support of EuroPride 2023 as well as StoreRoom these sessions will be offered for free. We are very lucky to be in this position. It takes a lot of funds to run a project like this. So instead of paying for KOR KWIR, we encourage you to support other local theatre organisations who are in need of funding right now.
