From the producers of It-Teatru tal-Miskin, Saydon Studio are now venturing onto creating an exciting new theatrical experience;
il-Każin tal-Imqarbin.
Set in Malta of the past, the musical is a creative exploration of the generation of queer men who had to hide their authentic self in everyday life. Set in an underground world, Il-Każin tal-Imqarbin will for the first time shine a light on the hidden lived experiences of these men who had no choice but to lie about their sexuality and the men they loved. Confined to a secret underground club as their only outlet of liberation, the struggles of these men are brought to life in Saydon Studio’s signature theatre making, abundant theatricality, all original music and unapologetic queerness.
This R&D is supported by Arts Council Malta and Aġenzija Żgħażagħ.
This open call is seeking to recruit four Maltese speaking actors to work hand in hand with creatives in workshopping the ideas of the piece.
The actors will work with the creative team on an intense R&D week between the 12th and 18th of February 2024. Actors are asked to be available for afternoons and evenings on weekdays and all day on the weekend.
These actors will be playing the gay and bi men of Malta, therefore we are keen to hear from male representing actors. Besides male-identifying actors we are especially keen to hear from trans male actors and gender non-binary actors. We are also so keen to hear from BAME actors.
